We are looking for a System Development Engineer with a passion for developing embedded industrial software and control systems to transform the way we integrate robotics within our global network of advanced warehouses. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in a wide range of automation projects right from the start. You will interface with multiple internal Amazon R&D and design teams as well as the world’s leading automation strategic partners who have the technology and resources to meet Amazon’s growth needs on a global scale.
This is a role in a growing team responsible for realizing the convergence of modern software development with traditional industrial control. It is an early-stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start-up like environment inside Amazon, so to be successful you need to be flexible and entrepreneurial. You are a true owner - you are hands on and you lead by example.
Key job responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain control software applications for mechatronic systems using modern software development practices, including CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
Implement automated testing frameworks and deployment strategies to ensure code quality, reliability, and seamless integration of control systems software.
Develop and optimize motion control algorithms, embedded programs, and real-time control systems for industrial automation.
Drive operational excellence through monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of software performance metrics and system reliability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify process improvements, and troubleshoot issues with mechatronic systems.
25% travel expected to support onsite system testing
4+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
2+ years of embedded software development experience
Experience deploying, and supporting mechatronic systems
Bachelor's degree
Experience building services using AWS products
Experience with Linux/Unix
Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
Experience with CODESYS, industrial fieldbus protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
